My grandma used to tell me to eat a piping hot bowl of oatmeal on a cold day because, "it will stick to your bones!" she would exclaim. To this day, whenever I know I have to be outside for a long period of time in the winter I hear my grandma's words and grab my oatmeal. Now, whether this is true science or not, the health benefits one gets from oatmeal are phenomenal. The whole grains of the oats are an excellent source of vitamins and fiber which heavily aid in lowering cholesterol. This definitely makes your heart healthy and happy.

3.) Soy Protein
Soy beans contain protein, vitamins and minerals that all make for a heart healthy meal. The best part about the soy proteins is that it can take on many different forms. From soy milk to protein shakes to tofu meals. Edamame makes for a great snack too and is delicious with a hint of sea salt and cracked black pepper, or if you are feeling really adventurous squeeze some lime and lightly coat them with some wasabi paste.
You have heard you need to eat spinach probably since you were a little tike. As much as you might have fought your mom and are not fighting your kids to eat this leafy green, I promise it is worth the effort. Not only is spinach virtually a calorie free food, it is packed with nutirents your body and your heart need to thrive. Popeye used it for strong bones, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. According to whfoods.com it also protects against inflammatory problems, oxidative stress-related problems, cardiovascular problems, bone problems, and cancers at the same time.
5.) Black Beans
Black beans the magical fruit the more you eat….the healthier you are! Okay, that might not be how the childhood rhyme went but black beans are surprisingly one of the healthiest foods, so eat to your heart's desire! Webmd boasts that these beans contain B-complex vitamins; niacin; folate; magnesium; omega-3 fatty acids; calcium and soluble fiber. And that, I think, does make them the magical fruit.
